Quizlume

Developed by: Clutched Studios, a studio under SwiftNine LLC

Effective date: March 30, 2026

Last updated: March 30, 2026

Applies to: Quizlume on Android (Google Play) and iOS (Apple App Store)

We wrote this policy to be read, not just checked off. It is written in plain English and covers everything honestly. If you have a question after reading it, email us at [email protected].

1. Who We Are

Clutched Studios is the game studio that developed and published Quizlume. Clutched Studios operates under its parent company, SwiftNine LLC.

Studio: Clutched Studios (a SwiftNine LLC brand)

Parent company: SwiftNine LLC

Contact email: [email protected]

Website: https://www.swiftnine.com

App package (Android): com.swiftnine.quizlume

App bundle (iOS): com.swiftnine.quizlume

When this policy says "we", "us", or "our", it refers to Clutched Studios and SwiftNine LLC collectively. When you see "Clutched Studios" in the app stores, that is us.

This Privacy Policy explains what information exists when you play Quizlume, where it lives, who can see it, and what rights you have over it. It applies to all players worldwide, including those in the United States, the European Union and EEA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and every other country.

2. The Short Version

We know most people do not read privacy policies. So before the full details, here is an honest summary:

  • We collect nothing from you. No name, no email, no location, no device ID, no account. Nothing.
  • Your game progress stays on your phone. Lives, scores, streaks, hints, purchased themes — all of it is saved locally on your device and never sent anywhere.
  • Ads are shown, but they are not personalised. We use Google AdMob to show ads, but every single ad request is sent with child-directed treatment enabled. This means no behavioural profiling, no advertising ID, and no interest-based targeting — for every player, regardless of age.
  • Purchases go through your app store. Google Play or Apple App Store handles every transaction. We never see your payment details.
  • No trackers. No analytics. No third-party SDKs collecting data on your behaviour. The app does not include Firebase, Crashlytics, Adjust, AppsFlyer, or any equivalent service.

3. What Data Exists — And Where It Lives

3.1 Data stored locally on your device

Quizlume saves your game state on your device using the operating system's private app storage. This data never leaves your device. It is not uploaded to any server — not ours, not anyone else's. It exists solely so the game remembers your progress between sessions.

The data stored locally includes:

  • Your current lives count and coin balance
  • Your hint inventory
  • Your all-time high score and current streak record
  • Your session statistics (total questions answered, correct and incorrect counts)
  • Whether you have purchased the Remove Ads upgrade
  • Which cosmetic themes (Neon, Galaxy) you have unlocked
  • Which question categories you have seen

You can delete all of this at any time by uninstalling the app. There is no account to delete, no server to contact, and no request to submit. Uninstalling is all it takes.

3.2 Data you send to us directly

Quizlume does not require you to create an account, register, or provide any personal information to play. The only scenario in which we would receive personal data from you is if you contact us voluntarily — for example by emailing [email protected] for support. In that case we receive your email address and the content of your message, and we use it solely to respond to you.

3.3 Data we do not collect

To be explicit:

  • We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any identifier unless you contact us directly.
  • We do not access your location — not precise, not approximate, not at any time.
  • We do not collect your device's advertising identifier. The Android Advertising ID (GAID) permission is not declared in our app's manifest. Apple's Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) is disabled in our iOS configuration.
  • We do not access your camera, microphone, photos, or any files on your device.
  • We do not read your contacts or any other app's data.
  • We do not track what you do across other apps or websites.
  • We do not collect health data, financial data, or biometric data of any kind.

4. Third-Party Services

Quizlume integrates a small number of third-party services to deliver ads and process purchases. These services operate under their own privacy policies. Below is a transparent and complete list of every third-party service integrated into the app, what it is used for, and a link to its privacy policy.

We do not use any analytics SDKs. We do not use any crash reporting services. We do not use any attribution or marketing SDKs. The list below is exhaustive.

Google AdMob

Platform: Android and iOS

Purpose: Serving advertisements (banner, interstitial, and rewarded video ads) within the game.

Because we operate in strict child-directed mode (explained fully in Section 5), the advertising ID is replaced with a string of zeros and no behavioural or interest-based data is used. In child-directed mode, AdMob may process the following minimal technical signals: the app's package name and version, your device's general type and operating system version, and an IP address that Google uses to infer approximate country for geographic ad targeting. Precise location is not derived or retained.

Google Play Billing

Platform: Android only

Purpose: Processing in-app purchases on Android.

When you initiate a purchase, the Google Play Billing library opens Google's payment flow. Google handles the entire transaction — your payment method, purchase validation, and receipt — directly. We receive only a token confirming that a valid purchase occurred, which the app uses to unlock the relevant item locally. We do not receive your payment card details, billing address, or Google account information.

Apple App Store and StoreKit

Platform: iOS only

Purpose: Processing in-app purchases on iOS, and providing the native in-app review prompt.

When you initiate a purchase, StoreKit opens Apple's payment flow. Apple handles the transaction entirely. We receive only a receipt confirming a valid purchase, which the app uses to unlock the relevant item locally. We do not receive your Apple ID, payment details, or billing information.

When you are prompted to rate Quizlume, the app uses Apple's native StoreKit review API. Any rating or review you submit goes directly to Apple. We do not receive your rating or review independently.

Google Play Services

Platform: Android only

Purpose: Core Android platform services required for app distribution and runtime functionality.

5. Advertising in Detail

This section explains our advertising setup completely, because we believe players and parents deserve a thorough and honest account — not vague reassurances.

5.1 How ads are configured

Every ad request that Quizlume sends to Google AdMob is configured with the following flags, hardcoded at the application level. These are not toggles that can be changed remotely. They are built into every version of the app.

Child-directed treatment (COPPA flag)

Every ad request is tagged with TAG_FOR_CHILD_DIRECTED_TREATMENT = TRUE. This tells Google to treat every ad request from this app as coming from a child, regardless of the actual age of the player. This disables all behavioural profiling, all interest-based advertising, all remarketing, and all audience targeting. Google serves only contextual ads.

Under-age-of-consent treatment (GDPR-K flag)

Every ad request is also tagged with TAG_FOR_UNDER_AGE_OF_CONSENT = TRUE. This extends GDPR protections for children to all users globally, not just users in the EU.

Maximum ad content rating

All ads are restricted to MAX_AD_CONTENT_RATING = G — General Audiences, the most conservative content classification available.

No advertising identifier

The Android Advertising ID permission is not declared in our Android manifest. Apple's IDFA is disabled in our iOS configuration. When child-directed treatment is active, Google's SDK also automatically replaces any advertising ID with a string of zeros.

5.2 Types of ads displayed

  • Banner ads: Small persistent ads displayed on certain non-gameplay screens (for example, the main menu and results screen). Not shown during active quiz gameplay.
  • Interstitial ads: Full-screen ads shown between completed quiz rounds, not during questions.
  • Rewarded ads: Optional ads that you can choose to watch in exchange for in-game rewards such as extra lives or hints. These are always player-initiated — we never force a rewarded ad.

5.3 Removing ads

Purchasing the Remove Ads upgrade permanently disables all banner ads and all interstitial ads for your device. Rewarded ads remain available after this purchase because they are voluntary and player-initiated. You can simply choose not to watch them.

5.4 Your opt-out options

Because all ads in Quizlume are already served without personalisation or behavioural targeting, there is nothing additional to opt out of. However, if you wish to further limit ad-related data at the device level:

  • Android: Go to Settings → Google → Ads → "Delete advertising ID".
  • iOS: Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track". You can also go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → disable "Personalised Ads".
  • Google's ad settings: You can review and manage Google's ad personalisation settings at https://myadcenter.google.com.

6. In-App Purchases

Quizlume is free to play and offers optional in-app purchases. No purchase is required to complete the game or access any question category.

6.1 Available purchases

Consumable items (single-use; can be purchased multiple times):

  • 3 Extra Lives
  • 10 Extra Lives
  • 5 Hints
  • Starter Pack (a bundle of extra lives and hints for new players)

Non-consumable items (purchased once; permanently unlocked):

  • Remove Ads — permanently disables banner and interstitial ads
  • Neon Theme — cosmetic UI skin
  • Galaxy Theme — cosmetic UI skin

6.2 How purchases are processed

All transactions are handled entirely by your platform's app store. On Android, purchases go through Google Play Billing. On iOS, purchases go through Apple's App Store and StoreKit. We never handle your payment information. We never see your credit card number, bank details, billing address, or any details of your payment method. We receive only a confirmation token from the platform that a valid purchase occurred, which the app uses to unlock the purchased item on your device.

6.3 Parental gate

Before the in-game store opens and before any in-app purchase can be initiated, Quizlume presents a parental gate — a simple challenge that a young child is unlikely to solve by accident.

Parents and guardians can also restrict all in-app purchases at the platform level:

  • Android: Google Play → Profile icon → Settings → Family → Parental controls
  • iOS: Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → set "In-app Purchases" to "Don't Allow"

6.4 Restoring purchases (iOS)

Apple's App Store allows you to restore non-consumable purchases if you reinstall the app or switch to a new device. Tap "Restore Purchases" in the in-game store. The app will contact Apple's servers to verify your purchase history and re-unlock any items you previously bought. We do not store your purchase history — the verification happens entirely between your device and Apple.

7. Sharing a Score or Screenshot

Quizlume lets you share your score at the end of a quiz round. When you tap the share button, the app captures a screenshot and passes it directly to your device's native operating system share sheet. The image goes from the app to your OS — we never receive it, never store it, and never transmit it to any server.

Where you share it (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messages, and so on) and what happens to it after that is determined entirely by the app you share to and your own choices. We have no involvement beyond generating the screenshot and passing it to the OS.

8. Children's Privacy

We built Quizlume to be genuinely safe for children, not just technically compliant. Here is what that means in practice.

8.1 COPPA (United States)

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) requires operators of apps directed to children under 13 to protect their privacy carefully. Quizlume is designed for all ages, and we treat every player as if they could be a child. Our COPPA compliance is structural — built into the app itself, not just this policy.

  • No data collection: We do not collect any personal information from any player, including children. There is nothing to obtain parental consent for, because we collect nothing.
  • No advertising ID: The AD_ID permission is not in our Android manifest. No advertising identifier is collected from children or anyone else.
  • Child-directed ad treatment: All ads are tagged with TAG_FOR_CHILD_DIRECTED_TREATMENT = TRUE at the app level.
  • Certified ad SDK: Google AdMob is a Google Play Families self-certified ads SDK, meaning Google has verified it meets child-safety requirements for use in family apps.
  • Parental gate before purchases: A parental gate prevents children from initiating purchases without a parent's awareness.
  • No social features: Quizlume has no chat, no user-generated content, no public profiles, and no way for children to share personal information within the app.

8.2 Google Play Families Policy

Quizlume is configured to meet Google's Families Policy requirements, including exclusive use of self-certified ad SDKs, prohibition on advertising identifier transmission, and G-rated ad content restrictions.

8.3 Apple App Store children's guidelines

Quizlume complies with Apple's App Store Review Guidelines for apps that may be used by children, including the requirement for a privacy policy, the prohibition on behavioural advertising, and the parental gate requirement before any purchase or external link.

8.4 If you are a parent with a concern

Because Quizlume does not collect data from children, there is no personal data of your child held by us to request, review, or delete. However, if you have any concern at all about your child's privacy in relation to this app, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond promptly and take your concern seriously.

9. Users in the European Union and EEA (GDPR)

If you are located in the EU, the EEA, or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR applies to how your personal data is handled.

9.1 What this means for you

Because we do not collect personal data from players, we have no personal data about you on any server. Your game save data is on your own device. GDPR rights of access, correction, erasure, portability, and objection are therefore inherently satisfied — there is nothing we hold to act upon.

9.2 AdMob and GDPR

All ad requests include TAG_FOR_UNDER_AGE_OF_CONSENT = TRUE, which instructs Google to serve non-personalised ads only and to apply GDPR-K protections universally. Google processes the minimal technical information described in Section 4 under its own legal basis and GDPR compliance framework.

9.3 Your right to complain

If you have a concern about how your data is handled and you are in the EU or EEA, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. A full list of EU supervisory authorities is available at https://edpb.europa.eu.

10. Users in California (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) may give you additional rights over your personal information.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not collect personal information from California residents in the operation of Quizlume. As a result, your CCPA and CPRA rights of access, deletion, and opt-out of sale are inherently satisfied.

If you have a question, contact us at [email protected].

11. Data Security

Because we do not operate any server that holds your personal data, there is no server-side attack surface through which a data breach could expose your information. Your game data is stored on your own device, protected by your device's own security architecture — Android's application sandbox and iOS's data protection framework.

The one point of data flow between the app and external systems is ad requests and purchase validations. These communications travel over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.

We take privacy-by-design seriously. The most secure data is data that is never collected in the first place.

12. Data Retention

We retain no personal data from players. Your game save data lives on your device for as long as the app is installed. Deleting or uninstalling the app removes it permanently.

If you contact us by email, we retain your email address and message content for as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry, and we do not use it for any other purpose.

Data processed by third-party services (Google AdMob, Google Play, Apple App Store) is subject to those companies' own retention policies, described in their respective privacy policies linked in Section 4.

13. Device Backup and Cloud Storage

Depending on your device settings, your operating system may include the app's local save data in a device-level backup.

  • Android: You can manage this in Settings → Google → Backup.
  • iOS: You can manage this in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup, or by excluding specific apps from backup.

This backup behaviour is entirely controlled by you and your device settings. We do not receive, access, or have any visibility into these backups.

14. Links to External Content

Quizlume may display a link to this Privacy Policy within the app, or links to platform support pages. Tapping any external link opens your device's browser and takes you to a third-party website. Those websites are not operated by us and are governed by their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any third-party website.

A parental gate is presented before any external link is opened, consistent with children's app guidelines on both platforms.

15. Your Rights and How to Exercise Them

Regardless of where you live, you can:

  • Delete all your game data by uninstalling the app.
  • Remove ads by purchasing the Remove Ads upgrade.
  • Control ad tracking through your device's system settings (see Section 5.4).
  • Contact us with any privacy question, concern, or request at [email protected].

We aim to respond to all enquiries within 30 days. For matters involving children's data, we will respond as quickly as possible.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves, as laws change, or as we add features. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For changes that significantly affect your privacy rights or our data practices, we will also provide notice through the app or the app's store listing.

The current version of this Privacy Policy is always available at: https://www.swiftnine.com/quizlume/privacy-policy

Your continued use of Quizlume after any update to this policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with a change, you may stop using the app and uninstall it.
